FAQ

When is hypnotherapy especially useful?

In hypnotherapy, you are using your subconscious mind, which is able to focus sharply, makes no judgements, and is free of emotion.
In the “trance” state, you can rehearse a problem situation while you are confident and relaxed. Your subconscious is not able to differentiate between what is really happening and what you think is happening, so hypnotherapy can help you lay down different neural pathways in your brain., This means that when you are in the real life situation, you can think, feel and behave in the way you want.

Hypnotherapy therefore is especially useful in helping you to deal with issues that  willpower alone has not solved. Perhaps you have tried to break a habit, to think differently, relax consciously, for example, but found that this only works to a limited extent, if at all.

so hypnotherapy is very effective in dealing with:-

The issues can be relatively unimportant  to you but ones you want to change  to improve your life, or they can be big issues that are spoiling the way you want to live.

What does it feel like to be hypnotised?

Hypnosis is a very individual experience. Some people feel very relaxed and “dreamy”, other people feel extra alert and focussed but in a relaxed and flowing way. You will be conscious of what is happening and what the hypnotherapist is saying, but will not be aware of many of the things around you that would normally distract you from focusing.

What is a hypnotherapy session like?

Your hypnotherapy session will begin with the hypnotherapist asking you some questions to find out exactly what you want to get out of the session, and you will have a discussion about what has been  happening in the situation you want to deal with. This does not always mean re-living the experience in a negative way, (and if you are wanting to work on relieving post traumatic stress disorder, this will not happen at all). After about 30 minutes, maybe sooner or later, you will go into the focused “trance” where the hypnotherapist will help you work on your issue, often for between 20 and 35 minutes. This will vary from person to person, issue to issue, and even session to session.
When you have finished, you will come out of the trance state, and may be given some “homework” to do, to make sure the work is carried on in your everyday life.

Will I be in control of what is going on ?

Yes, you will be fully aware of what you are doing and what your hypnotherapist is saying. You can come out of trance any time you want, if you decide that is what you want to do. Unlike some stage hypnosis, you will not be asked to do silly things: the hypnotherapist will be very aware and respectful towards your dignity and free will.

How will I feel after a session?

You will feel very relaxed and at ease with the world, maybe a little dozy for a few seconds. You may be able to remember what has happened while you were in “trance”, or maybe remember only very little, just like after you have been dreaming. That does not matter either way, as your subconscious brain will remember all it needs to in order to help you.

How many sessions will I need?

This will vary from person to person, and on what your issue is. Sometimes people need only one session, sometimes between six and ten sessions. Your hypnotherapist will not suggest you  have more sessions than you need, as they will want you to get what you want as quickly and effectively as possible.
